Let’s start at the beginning by defining a mini-site It is usually a one-page sales letter selling a single product. Sometimes there may be additional pages but rarely more than four pages.
Don’t let the name fool you. These small, highly focused sites are the key to exploiting targeted niches for maximum profit. Mini-sites don’t mean mini-income. There are other advantages too, such as:
- They are easy to set up
- Don’t require a high level of technical expertise
- Need less than a day or two to launch unlike a major information portal
In this article, I’m going to focus on making ”killer” mini-websites that generate large volumes of sales, fast. There are five keys to creating a successful mini-site that converts well. They are:
Key #1: Find a hungry market. Legendary copywriter, Gary Halbert once said, “If you wanted to sell hamburgers, the best way to do it was to find a starving crowd.” For a mini-site, that means you need to find a niche that is hungry for the information you want to deliver. That information can be in different forms, but it’s easy to think about an eBook, let’s stick with that example. So, find a market hungry for an eBook you can give them.
Key #2: Create a targeted product. That means having a product that’s exactly what your market wants. The closer you can get to satisfying their immediate needs, the more successful you’ll be. Imagine a crowd that desperately wants to find out how to cut their summer electric bills…and you can give them a step-by-guide to cut their utility bills by 40% or more. They’ll be beating down your door to grab your product.
Key #3: Attractive price-point. This is completely market driven. If you charge $97 for your eBook, it may be in line with what the market will bear. A little research into what similar products are selling for will give you a good idea of what to charge. However, you may have test different price points before settling on the final price.
Key #4: Compelling sales copy. Remember, when people buy an information product online, they don’t get to see it or touch it. The only thing that’s going to sell the information you’re offering is your sales copy. It has to address their pain points and make an emotional connection at a personal level in order to persuade them to click on the magic “add to cart” or “buy now” button. I learned an important selling skill from Paul Chaney, “First comes mindshare, then comes a share of the wallet.”
Key #5: Painless shopping experience. Make payment quick and easy. Don’t make your customers jump through hoops, for example, forcing visitors to register before making a purchase. Your money back guarantee and return policy should be clearly visible and written in plain English, not legalese. Your contact information should be readily available in case of questions.
Keep these five keys in mind for your next killer mini-site and it will convert like gangbusters.
