When it comes to marketing and selling information products (Info Products), there are some evergreen topics and then there are those that are hot for a period. Timing is everything! If you a niche marketer, trend spotting is important. It is a skill you need to master quickly.
A word of caution – do take the time to learn the difference between hot niches and profitable niche markets.
Trends may not be important if you are selling an eBook on Overcoming Grief or if you are selling an eBook for creating a video series on Dog Obedience because those are evergreen topics. The basic information is not likely to change from year to year.
However, if you want to market an information product in niches like fashion, Internet marketing, technology, finance or real estate, then you need to brush up on what is hot right now. Do your research on the issues that are of concern to your target audience. In other words, what are their wants, needs, problems and hot buttons? Those will develop into selling opportunities for you.
Let’s take finances as an example first. Consumers are going through a disastrous economical crunch right now. They need, want and demand to find ways to save money. Your info products could teach them a wide variety of techniques to do just that. Paying off debts and resolving credit issues will also be important to many households in 2010.
When gas prices hit the roof in 2009, a ton of eBooks came out about saving money on gas, but what else happened? Technology developers created tools to help get price updates on cell phones, gasoline alternatives and additives to increase mileage per gallon. Those who jumped on this trend, made a lot of money with it.
In 2010, consumers will continue to need cost cutting advice. We’re not out of the recession yet. They’ll also need advice on how to find or keep a job, since unemployment is still very high. Work at home topics will be highly sought after for those who want to save on daycare and commuting costs, or those who weren’t able to find a traditional 9 to 5 job.
Mobile networks will become even more popular in 2010. Cell phones, social networking from your mobile gadget – all are on the verge of becoming mainstream, where grandma has a Motorola Droid and she’s Tweeting at her grandchildren’s recital.
Even your gadgets will have gadgets developed for them. Cell phones are going to have boosters – if you only get 1 bar in a certain area, you can use a gadget that boosts you by 3 more bars.
In the gaming niche, video games will almost make handheld clunky controllers, a thing of the past – developers are coming out with games that are controlled more by the movements of your own body. There’s even a Nintendo Wii Weight Loss and Fitness Program and Plan for better health for those who can’t make it to the gym.
At the start of every new year, you can always bet on weight loss, diets, exercise and fitness, health and wellness niches.
The other day, I read an informative article on inc.com, “9 Businesses You Can Start In Your Pajamas in 2010.” Check it out at http://www.inc.com/ss/9-businesses-you-can-start-your-pajamas-2010.
You’ll need to determine if your own niche has trending possibilities and create a forecast based on some market research using keywords and a little investigative spying on what manufacturers or experts are predicting.
Niche selection is one skill that can make all the difference between success and failure. Discover the amazing secrets to uncovering profitable niches in my eBook, Niche Navigator.
